In the three years since its debut, AMC’s Mad Men has become a water cooler show for critics and fans alike, making stars
of its then little-known lead actors and turning the conservative early 60s into the current height of hipness.
What is it about Mad Men that strikes a chord with so many? Well, like so many things, at least part of the show’s success may have been written in the stars! After all, actors bring little pieces of themselves to every role. Let’s see how the charts of a few of Mad Men‘s stars stack up to inform their characters!
Jon Hamm (Donald Draper)
The name Don Draper has become synonymous with style, sex appeal and most of all, secrets. What is it specifically that allows Jon Hamm (born March 10, 1971 in Saint Louis), to capture our hearts and fascinate our minds despite the fact that his actions often turn our stomachs? He’s handsome sure, with his classic features and manly frame, but it’s more than that! But unlike her co-stars who have been acting for years, Jones came to the role with little experience and no formal training.
Perhaps Betty’s cool exterior and practical choices in love are qualities this Capricorn (Born January 5, 1978 in South Dakota) relates to – especially since her love-ruling Venus is also in the sign of the goat. Vincent Kartheiser (Pete Campbell)
Often the guy viewers love to hate, Pete Campbell is at once unfairly privileged and desperate to prove himself. A study in contradictions, he is both cowardly enough to force himself on a neighbor’s au pair and courageous enough to confront Don with his own indiscretions. So how does Kartheiser do it? Perhaps it’s the preponderance of Aries in his chart. Mercury, Venus, and Mars were all residing in this aggressive sign on May 5, 1979 when the actor made his first entrance. well,as far as for me,I’m in my 40′s & my so-called mate is 30′s.But it’s like taking care of a child in there late teens. Want to drink,look at girls,party if possible and he has little kids.
That is why I left,it’s like this if I don’t put money away,we would have been broke.Even now if he needs money he will give me the puppydog face w/a song and dance.What an actor.And me being a caring soul,help this person out.For me trust is the main thing,I have none after 5yrs.Wish I could get in his mind to tell him he will get old too.And you want to remember goodtimes not bad,so does the kids.Lies and deception does not a marrage make.

First of all, the show is fantastic. The writing and acting are outstanding. The overlapping themes are mesmerizing. Then there are the characters. One is better looking and sexier than the other – men and women included. Of course Jon Hamm is the sexiest but the others are pretty close. Joan is classic in her look. What a cast!!!

I stumbled upon this show by accident and to my surprise, feel in love with it! We zoomed right through the first 2 seasons and are anxious to watch season 3. Waiting for it to come out on DVD because waiting a week to watch the next episode is too painful.

I love Jon Hamm!! He is the same age as my son but no matter he is a wonderful actor with a special gift. I can’t help but watch this show over and over.The writing and the music and the clothes are spot on.I grew up in the 50′s and 60′s and was amazed how right on they are on this show.

More More More!!! I became addicted to “Mad Men” just this season. It takes me right back to what I was doing in the 60′s, living a life somewhat like Betty Draper’s! And January Jones and I share a birthday,but I’m not a blonde bombshell.
Now if I can just hang on until “Breaking Bad” resumes, I’ll be fine.
Mad Men is so well written. Love it! I worked for a major newspaper in the late 60s and worked with similar advertising agencies. Everyone worked hard and played hard. I don’t think sexual harrassment ever entered our minds. It was a cozy time!!!

Mad Men has been my favorite show since day one! To me every single character is perfect in their role. Granted Don Draper truly is the leading character, but each character is developing to be as interesting and makes the program and 60s time period so believeable. When you’ve live through those times, like I have, you can see how real it is! Can’t wait for next season!!!!!
I like Peggy and I wish we could see more of her. But with the rest of the 60s looming I hope she becomes a force to be reckoned with. I suspect she’ll be replacing Stirling and Cooper.
