Debunking the Law of Attraction

June 20, 2010 at 11:11 am
By Suzanne Baran

Quantum physics loosely dictates that everything and everybody projects real energetic frequencies that move out into the universe. So we’re all like mini radio stations broadcasting our signals in small (and not-so-small) ways. People and situations that carry the same energy will tune their antennae into, and be drawn to us – for better or for worse. Do you truly believe this? I have some issues with thinking in this self-limiting, yet hyper-inclusive manner.

One, you become a public relations mecca. You’re only broadcasting good vibes to receive other good vibes. Thus, you’re not fully connecting to or sitting with your negative vibes. They remain trapped in your chakras, or within the recesses of your mind, causing suppression, repression, and future issues. Even if you attract or manifest the object of your desire, you still have a breadth of unresolved issues in your arsenal. They could become an impediment to manifesting success in future endeavors.

That said, check out this new book by  Sandra Anne Taylor.

In her book Truth, Triumph, and Transformation, Sandra highlights and delves into each and every fallacy written about the “Law of Attraction” – and she touches on a more evolved view about what this Universal Law is. Taylor provides guidance and perspectives to empower us to  change by using positivity or those positive vibes in a practical, grounded, and compassionate way.

Have you used the Law of Attraction? Does Quantum Physics present a better way to manifest your desires? Enlighten me!

Cate Blanchett, born May 14, 1969, is as versatile as they come. The Australian actress is also a theater director. She’s won many acting awards — most notably an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in The Aviator. With Taurus as her dominant sign, stability, security, and sensuality are her marked traits. Paired with a good sense of beauty, manners, and hard-work, it’s no wonder Cate is such a success.

California Psychics at Revlon Walk Finish Line

May 8, 2010 at 3:03 pm
By Suzanne Baran

Every Mother’s Day weekend thousands participate in the Revlon Run/Walk. Whether they walk, jog, run, are pushed by a parent in a stroller, or require a wheelchair — all unite in action.

Today I experienced a beautiful display of true solidarity. Women (mostly!) men, and children smiling, singing,  and cheering. Simply proud to be part of a sincerely worthwhile cause. I’ve known women who have died from cancer, and I helped care for one who was battling cancer. I remember cheering when she lost her hair, when she couldn’t get out of bed, the chemo made her so sick. I liked holding her hand, assuring her she would make it, while rubbing her feet in front of the TV.

She’s now a survivor.

Being in downtown Los Angeles, walking those 3 miles (for me it was more like 2) I was happy to be alive, happy to support real heroes — people who fight this disease, their families, friends, and co-workers. Anyone who has ever known — or not known anyone who has had this disease, knows of someone who had…

It was one heck of a 17th outing!

Goodbye, Lynn Redgrave

May 3, 2010 at 6:00 pm
By Suzanne Baran

Lynn Redgrave passed away Sunday at the age of 67. Her breast cancer battle lasted about seven years. The actress was best known for her roles in Oscar-nominated pictures like 1998’s Gods and Monsters and 1966’s Georgy Girl. Redgrave belonged to an acting family spanning generations, including her Natasha Richardson who passed last March. It’s a difficult time for Redgrave’s sister Vanessa and the entire family.

She leaves a rich legacy on film. Georgy Girl was the first Bridget Jones’s Diary. She earned a Best Actress nomination with her sister who was given the Acaedmy’s nod for A Suitable Case for Treatment. (They both lost to Elizabeth Taylor for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) Redgrave earned the Academy’s accolades as Ian McKellen’s Hungarian housekeeper in Gods and Monsters, an intense psychological film. Broadway is slated to dim its lights in her honor. She was known for her captivating stage performances as well.

Venus Cycles Out of Taurus

April 23, 2010 at 5:05 pm
By Suzanne Baran

The planet of love has lingered in Taurus long enough — well, since March 31. Have you been feeling more sensual, content, and possessive in your relationships? Time to give it up!

Starting today, Venus will form a square (90 degree angle) with Neptune, this yields dream fulfillment in love, and fostering contentment, too. But nasty Neptune casts its spell — making you feel euphoric, ignoring red flags, details, and judgment. Don’t harbor false expectations at this time. Your romantic fantasies might seem realistic or within reach, but don’t lose sight of logical thinking.

Being realistic will prevent disappointment. Everyone has flaws. Don’t magnify or overlook them — just accept them. Do not set yourself up for disappointment — temper your expectations. Lovers are imperfectly human after all! Also, Venus has dominance over money matters, too. Watch your wallets! Something that seems like a great deal/purchase can be a lemon in disguise! Fantasy will appear to trump reality during this placement, so be on the lookout!

Chiron in Pisces

April 22, 2010 at 4:42 pm
By Suzanne Baran

Chiron leaves Aquarius and moves into the sign of Pisces. Known as the planet of Wounded Healers, Chiron reveals our own scars and how we can heal them. When we experience intense emotional tribulations, we have the ability to learn and grow, which we wouldn’t have had without a heart wrenching trial. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.”

That’s exactly what Chiron is — a planetary guide during treacherous journeys, fueling us with bravery, fighting fear and pain. Think of an addict in recovery – their life choices led them to spiral out of control. As they become sober, they learn to fully deal with and be present during the healing process.

From 2005 until next year, Chiron was pretty busy is in Aquarius. Aquarius is associated with innovations, inventions, and yes – technological developments. For the past five years, we’ve witnessed the ways this Aquarian placement has divided us from heart to heart connections, relying for the most part – on technology to become more intimate with others. The ironic argument about technology advancing communication, but dampening intimate face-to-face connections is a double-edge keyboard. Those who feel lonely often use devices to create connections, quelling their need for company. Adding more friends on social media platforms and sites, writing more emails and texting, have in some cases, created a space of thoughts/ideas/developments instead of becoming heart and soul centric. Aquarius, has a double dose of Saturn (rules and solitude) while Uranus (collective consciousness) is primarily concerned with innovation, ideas, and expansion. Read the rest of this entry »

Be Responsible for You

March 14, 2010 at 10:42 am
By Suzanne Baran

If you’ve read Own Up To Yourself you’re already on a path toward self-realization and growth. Give yourself a pat on the back. Now here comes the second part – are you ready?

“There is a price we pay for being attached to a narrow view of being right.”
–Jon Kabat Zinn, Wherever You Go, There You Are

Ponder that for a moment before you launch into a tirade with your co-worker, boyfriend, mother, or even yourself. Months ago I practiced an emotional mediation at the Shambhala Center in Los Angeles. The guided meditation began as the teacher instructed, “Think of the worst insult you ever received. Now think of how unjustified you felt on the receiving end. Think about your heart rate, how you became consumed with anger…” Immediately my sister sprang to mind. Years ago she’d accused me of betraying secrets to our parents. I was looking out for her welfare, but she thought I had committed a grave act of disloyalty. I was wounded by her venomous accusations. I didn’t defend myself at the time. My inaction stemmed from paralysis. I couldn’t believe I’d hurt her so.

“Now lean into that emotion. Lean into how angry you felt…” the teacher continued. I allowed every negative thought and feeling to permeate my body. Instead of clenching my fists, and planning my ‘revenge’ speech, I began to laugh! The instructor turned to me and asked, “What did you learn?” I said, simply, “I feel amazing. I let it go.” A beaming smile was plastered on my face for the remainder of the evening and I slept like I was in a coma.

“Speaking of something that makes you angry surrenders your power to others. Experiment with mindfulness in a pot which you can put your feelings into, and be with them,” I read these words last night by the great Jon Kabat Zinn.

Suddenly my experience at the Shambhala Center became even clearer – I understood why and how I had let go. But the trick is to keep doing it every moment of every day.

Have you had a similar experience? Will you try this with me?
