DreamCast: Break Free from Fear

Susan from Chatsworth, California writes:

I have had recurring dreams about a place from my childhood and a family I considered special (better than me). I used to dream that something bad and scary lived in a house behind their house, up on a hill. In other dreams, I went inside that scary house and found nothing visible, but I sensed something in the shadows threatening me.

Recently, I had a strange and wonderful dream about this same place. A celebration was taking place—the scary person who lived in the house, and who has never come out, was finally coming out. This person was my friend from the old days who shared my love of dance. She emerged and left the scary house for good. It was a definable life event marked by joy. Read the rest of this entry »

DreamCast: Let Go of a Lost Love

August 27, 2011 at 5:00 am
By Cortney Litwin

Anthea from Western Cape, South Africa writes:

Hi Cortney, although I am married, I constantly dream of my ex-boyfriend from eight years ago. He was the love of my life. In the dreams he is either with his parents or his current wife. Then he walks toward me to be with me. He sometimes talks to me, and previously I talked back, but now I ignore him. I am scared that I will never be free of him. He hurt me too much and that is why I left him, but I still loved him so much during the beginning of my new relationship and marriage. I finally moved on last year, but the dreams keep haunting me.

Hello Anthea,

Dreams seem to be the last thing to go when a relationship ends. We usually dream of a past relationship when we feel there is something left unfinished, unsaid or unresolved. You need a sense of closure. Assuming that you don’t want to contact your ex, you might try writing him a letter (but not mailing it), stating all the feelings—both positive and negative—that he brought out in you, and the feelings you’re still struggling with, which may reveal the reason you’re still dreaming about him. Then tell him goodbye, in the letter. Read the rest of this entry »

Marina in London, England writes:

I dreamed that I was being suffocated to death. I was trying to scream, but my voice didn’t come out, and I ended up waking up trying to scream. I used to have this dream often a few years ago, but I’m not sure why it has returned. I’m much happier in my life than I used to be. What does it mean?

Hello Marina,

I think there is still a part of you that needs to be expressed. In search of a clue as to what this might be, I looked up your chart. With three placements in Taurus, you’re in a period of expansion that may launch you out of your comfort zone. How exciting! Read the rest of this entry »

DreamCast: Release the Bonds of Loneliness

August 12, 2011 at 5:00 am
By Cortney Litwin

Diane in Newcastle, England writes:

I am 56 years old and have been divorced from my first husband for 17 years—we were married for 20 years and have two children.

In my dream, he and I were in a wood, lying together on the ground. He appeared as he was when we were young. It was either autumn or winter as the trees are bare. I suddenly saw an apple on a low branch, and when I walked over to look at it, I discovered four apples in a perfect row. They were all large, but a bit past their best. I picked all four, feeling a bit guilty, because I knew that I can’t eat them all. Then realize I can make applesauce.

The wood then became dark, and my ex-husband said he hoped there are no ghouls or ghosts. I said I hoped there were because there would also be the opposite, which is God, who would protect us. I think that my ex-husband did not protect me from what had happened, and the answer came back that he can’t protect me from myself. I told him that I want to go home, so we leave.

Sometimes, I feel lost and rootless, and that I am wandering alone through life. Does this dream indicate that my life will always be this way? What can I do to change it? Read the rest of this entry »

DreamCast: Heal With the Help of Your Guardian Angel

August 5, 2011 at 5:00 am
By Cortney Litwin

Barbara in Clayton, North Carolina writes:

In my dream, I walk to my mailbox and discover a Christmas card with a picture on the front of Michael, a very good friend who passed away some six years ago. I’m stunned. Then I open the card, and he pops out in the form of a bright white light of energy. He tells me that he has been my angel since his passing, and that he knows I have struggled very hard these past few years. He tells me not to give up, that I will be okay. He then plays a country song for me and says this is my song from him in heaven.

I want to get up and write down this dream so I can remember it, especially the song, but he says, “No, you are tired, you need your sleep.” Then he holds me in the white light, which is pure warmth and beauty, and I cry myself to sleep in the dream. Read the rest of this entry »

Round-Up Your Past-Life Dreams

Have you ever had a vivid dream where you found yourself in a different time period, complete with clothing, activities or surroundings from that time? Such a dream may reveal a past life. Analyzing the characters, situations and feelings in the dream can offer insights about an issue from the past that you’re still dealing with now.

Here are some examples of dreams that are likely scenarios from the dreamers’ past lives.

Bill from Blakely, Pennsylvania writes:

I dream I am living in the 1920s. I have a different set of parents and a brother. They want me to do something I do not want to do, and I rebel fiercely. It feels like a past life experience. Is this possible? Read the rest of this entry »

DreamCast: The Hidden Meanings of Recurring Dreams

July 15, 2011 at 5:00 am
By Cortney Litwin

Jane from Princeton, New Jersey writes:

I have been facing a very difficult situation in my life with family and love. There are two dreams which have repeated for the past two-three years, especially when I’m stressed. One dream is about me standing on the beach and looking at a tsunami coming my way. I always run away from it to higher ground, sometimes grabbing my best friend or sometimes grabbing my boyfriend (but who is actually not my boyfriend in real life). I run up on a mountain and see people gathering on the beach who are curious about the withdrawing ocean. I want to warn them, but they don’t pay attention. I survive it every time in the dream.

In the second dream, I see different plane crashes, but all I see is the plane from the outside, as if I’m watching it happen from the sky. I don’t see people in the plane but I know they are inside it. The plane always crashes and then I wake up.

I’m really not sure what my dreams are trying to tell me, but because they are repeating again and again, I know they mean something. I have had such a tough life for the past eight years; it seems ridiculous and unfair for anyone to go through what I am going through. I hope you can shed some light to my situation. DreamCast: Stop Running and Face Your Fears

July 8, 2011 at 5:00 am
By Cortney Litwin

Misty in Mobile, Alabama writes:

In my dream I’m waiting to get on a plane or starship that’s supposed to take me to safety somewhere. There are lines of pilots of different ethnic backgrounds dressed in what looks like spaceship (Star Trek) clothing. The suits are alike except for different colors, and represent different nations. The planes are the colors of the spacesuits the men are wearing. They’re lined up above my head. I’m waiting to be told which plane/starship to board. I’m told by a strange man that there is water flooding below us and we don’t have much time, but there is no guarantee that flying away will save us.

I suspect this must mean I’m subconsciously hoping to escape something or in fear of something, and want secretly to fly away or run away. Read the rest of this entry »
