Hollywood’s Pagan Worship

In every culture, and every generation of human experience, we find the warm sap of the pagan primordial bursting through the seams of historical structure. The mysteries and deities of one cycle put on fresh masks and break forth anew; their sparkling pantheons bristling with creative force and tragic expression.

Hovering in a neon haze, Hollywood, California now stands as the pinnacle of our modern pagan collective, the bastion of the techno-cyber Mother Cult. Here we find the Gods and Goddesses of old in all their splendor. The roots of cinema and celebrity lie in the arcane ritual mysteries of the Cult of Dionysus. It was in this orgiastic movement that catharsis and ecstasy found full form in the earliest western ideal. Heated passion and sex made up the fertile soil of Dionysus’ adolescent reign, while modern theater was literally born to honor His older, more dignified form. We rarely consider it when Natalie Portman spins her web of charm and talent, but with every ticket purchased, every magazine sold, every gossip show sighting, the shadow of our cultural subconscious is forever in motion. Entertainment is modern worship. Read the rest of this entry »

New Britney Video Depicts 2012 Mayhem

April 7, 2011 at 1:00 pm
By Krishna Bill

You know that mainstream culture has adopted the 2012 meme when Britney’s on the bandwagon: the pop star’s new song and video, “Till the World Ends,” features Ms. Spears surrounded by a large group of revelers greeting the “apocalypse” many seem to believe will occur on December 21, 2012. While the video is filled with images of death and destruction, at least it ends on a positive note, with Britney looking out at the sunshine after emerging from underground. In general, though, the video doesn’t seem to (surprise) do any real thinking on what 2012 might actually be, preferring instead to recycle images from the Jerry Bruckheimer movie of the same name.

TNT Magazine reports:

Britney Spears’ Till The World Ends video has launched and plays on the belief held by some that the world will end on December 21, 2012, when the ancient Mayan calendar runs out. In Britney’s world, however, when the world ends, the party starts. The video features Brit dressed in leather jacket, underwear and fishnets rocking out in a basement party as the city above her is demolished. Meteors crash to the earth and black clouds roll over the city as Britney’s mates hop down manholes to join in the party. 7 Unworldly and Unexplained Mysteries

December 21, 2010 at 5:00 am
By Eric J. Leech

There are many mysteries in the world, but today we’re going to focus on seven of the most interesting and unexplained ones. While a few of these events are more myth than fact, they have nonetheless captured the attention of many scientists and experts who’ve been left scratching their heads, unable to offer a clear explanation.

1. The Egyptian Pyramids

Many of the Egyptian pyramids would be difficult to build today, much less with the tools and knowledge found in 2500 BC. The Pyramid of Cheops, built by King Khufu, stands 480 feet and is composed of 2,300,000 stones, each weighing as much as two tons. Some experts believe that alien intervention would have been necessary to accomplished such a feat, while others say thousands of slaves using giant pulley systems could have conceivably built these within a span of 20 years or more. Conan O’Brien: Will His New Show Succeed?

November 9, 2010 at 9:50 am
By Krishna Bill

(UPDATE: Conan’s show debuted last night to generally good reviews – with a 2.8 Nielsen rating.  As predicted in the astrological read below, many have commented on the off-color humor and a slightly tense atmosphere on the show that may have rubbed some the wrong way…)

Conan O’Brien returns to television tonight at 11 p.m., on TBS. The actor, who was prematurely booted from The Tonight Show, is expected to make a triumphant comeback (Tom Hanks, as well as Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame, are his hosts for his first outing).

But what does astrology say about the potential success or not-quite-success of his new outing? By combining Conan’s own birth chart with the chart of the premiere episode of the show, we can arrive at a composite chart for the new show, much as we would arrive at by drawing up a composite chart for a couple. Ke$ha Honing Psychic Abilities

October 18, 2010 at 1:00 pm
By Krishna Bill

MTV News reports that teenage star Ke$ha is working with a spiritual healer on developing her psychic powers (luckily, she’s got Auto-Tune to save her from working on her singing voice). A combination of healthy diet, acupuncture and chakra balancing helps the singer (who recently released the album Animal) develop her intuitive faculties:

Ke$ha is a party monster who sings about cute boys and dancing the night away. She regularly paints herself in body glitter and is about as outspoken as they come, so it might come as a surprise to her fans that the “Tik Tok” singer brings a spiritual healer with her when she hits the road.
