    Vatican Archives Opened

    June 3, 2010 at 11:11 am
    By Alys Cusack

Long the province of conspiracy theorists and bestselling novelists, the Vatican’s Secret Archives have been opened to selected journalists and members of the public.

Called Archivum Secretum Vaticanum in Latin, the Secret Archives hold all of the acts promulgated by the Holy See, as well as huge backlogs of church documents and holdings.

Technically, all that “Secret” means is that the library is the exclusive property of the Pope, instead of the Roman Curia. However, the Secret Archive is rumored to contain books on everything from witchcraft to ritual magic, the stolen libraries of the Templars and Cathars, and even secrets regarding the bloodline of Christ and other hidden sides of Church history. Genetic Test Tells Future?

    May 11, 2010 at 12:37 pm
    By Dione Waite

San Diego company Pathway Genomics has just released an over-the-counter genetics test, which you will be able to use to collect a small amount of your saliva and then mail it back to Pathway’s lab for testing. This is a completely new way to get medical advice. You’ll be able to buy one for between $20-30 from most of the 7,500 Walgreens stores across the U.S. The test will not only be able to tell you whether or not you’re genetically predisposed to conditions like Alzheimer’s, breast cancer and diabetes, but also what genetic disorders your future children may have (and whether or not they will be obese, or go blind.) How’s that for fortune telling?

Based on an article from ABC World News, the new tests promise to open a new period in how medical testing is done. Instead of going to see a doctor, in this case, the users will be sending their data directly to Pathway Genomics, who will not only conduct the tests, but also offer a range of solutions and products to assist with the conditions through their website. Lena Horne Dies at 92

    May 10, 2010 at 10:58 am
    By Justine McKnight

Actress, singer and absolute stunner, Lena Horne, passed away at 92 yesterday in Manhattan from failing health that started several months ago. Until today, I didn’t know who Lean Horne was, but after learning about the huge strides she made as an African American woman in a time of absolute ignorance, I am filled with hope and pride that what really matters in life is your determination. In short, Lena Horne was born in 1917 – a fire filled Cancer, she made her way onto the scene in New York’s Cotton Club, where she would perform jazz songs in an all black community. Seeking work as an actress on Broadway or in films, sad but true, Lena would be turned down time and time again simply because most thought the world wasn’t “ready” to see a leading lady of color.

    26 Traits of Mom

    May 9, 2010 at 10:00 am
    By Justine McKnight

What makes a mom? Since today is Mother’s Day I thought it would be appropriate to take some time to put down on paper (well, internet paper that is) some of the most admirable and special qualities about our mothers. Not every one has a close relationship to the person that gave them life but we can still show a little gratitude for the 9 months of nausea, back aches, swollen feet, frequent urination, lack of sleep and of course, labor … on this day we dedicate this to you, mom.

    A mom is …

    1. a person who endures physical pain to bring you to life
    2. a person who is willing to give up their body as they once knew it
    3. a person who sacrifices
    4. a person who shares
    5. a person who loves almost unconditionally (or maybe unconditionally if that can exist in human beings)
    6. a person who takes care
    7. a person who is always there
    8. a person who taught you how to walk, talk, get dressed, go to the bathroom … well, you get the picture

7 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day

    May 8, 2010 at 12:41 pm
    By Justine McKnight

In case you forgot, tomorrow is Mother’s Day! We know it can be challenging to come up with new and inventive ways to celebrate so we’ve come up with 7 simple, yet wonderful ways to make sure mom knows how much she is loved and appreciated. Remember, although we should be letting our mom know everyday how much we appreciate her, this is one day in particular to really show her just how much you care. For those mom’s reading this … you know what to do! Drop hints about how you would like to spend your day – be it quiet and alone or surrounded by friends and family!

    1. Breakfast in bed – what mom doesn’t love to be catered to … in bed? Make sure you know what she wants to eat and make sure she likes your cooking! If mom isn’t a fan of eating in bed or if you’re not a big cooker, take her out to her favorite restaurant – brunch anyone?

    2. Spa day – beauty treatments are a perfect way to remind mom she is beautiful – inside and out! Moms need to be pampered more then anyone and what better way than to send them for a massage, manicure, pedicure or even a blow-dry. They’ll feel rested, loved and beautiful by the end of it … and maybe, like a Queen!

    3. Leave her alone – it’s not that moms don’t want you around, but it’s her day to catch up on her! Leave her to read a book, go shopping, paint, knit, drink wine – whatever floats her boat. She’ll be grateful for a whole day to focus just on what she wants to do. Read the rest of this entry »
