I’ve been blessed my whole life with wonderful, amazing animals that have enriched my life experiences. This is my personal medium experience with my best friend’s dog Little Bear.
There is nothing little about Little Bear, but this gentle giant was one of my special buddies from the animal world that I loved dearly. Little Bear was bi-lingual – understood English and Spanish … and telepathy. I met Little Bear as a puppy before I moved to Italy.
This amazing animal knew me by name. Whenever I called, my friend would say, “It’s Miss Abigail on the phone.” He would go looking for me, only to look back at my friend with that face, “No she’s not here what’s the matter with you, mom?!” Now you know what’s coming next right? I went there as I have done with my own animals – I talked to him on the phone. You see I used to brush him, babysit him, take him out (or should I say he took me out, all 150 lbs of him!). When he had an eye infection once, I soaked his eyes with warm tea bags. My friend was grinning from ear to ear shaking her head as she watched this big Rottweiler allow me to do this to him.
Then they decided to get Little Bear a buddy. What a pair an English bulldog and a Rottweiler made. This big dog loved and nurtured this puppy like it was his mother. You see, he was getting ready for Mr. Belvidere to take care of the family when he departed this lifetime.
A few months back, she called and we had our “coffee talk.” She’s a New Yorker who now lives in New England, and I’m a New Englander who now lives in California.
I said, “You know Little Bear visited me in my dreams last night. He came in my room and gave big wet kisses, woke me up and I petted him.” She started to cry,“It’s because he is not doing well and he’s saying good bye to you.” This woman has been my best friend and mentor for many years. Little Bear died 3 days later.
He was able to leave in peace in my friend’s arms, knowing this silly Bulldog named Mr. Belvidere with a big personality would take care of his people for him. I miss my big buddy in the physical sense, yet I know he’ll visit me every now and then.
