Find the Blessings in Every Challenge

The Wisdom of Carlos Castaneda

Cliches are cliches because they continue to be true — and in every dark cloud there truly is a silver lining. To find the silver, or the blessing in your challenges, shift your perspective. Carlos Casteneda wrote that we might need to balance the terror of being alive with the wonder of being alive.

Old Carlos was a Peruvian-born American author, an icon of the hippie generation. His first published writing, The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge, was his anthropological Master’s thesis at the University of California, 1968. He wrote about his experiences learning from a Yaqui Indian sorcerer, and reading his work is kind of like going on a vision quest. Critics later called his writing fiction, but controversy aside, he understood the bonds between adversity and blessings. Read the rest of this entry »

Psychic on Psychic: Remove Fear to Grow

Marin ext. 5113 in Conversation With Peyton ext. 5312

When Peyton ext. 5312 picked up the phone, I could feel her burst of energy and positivity on the other end of the line. I was fortunate to get that chance to speak with her late that evening since she had been on the phone for several hours, and I was her last caller, patiently waiting for her. According to her posted schedule, she should have logged off already, but her guide had told her to “stay on for this one last call,” and I was glad she did. Even after a long shift, she was full of energy, vibrant and eager to answer my questions.

Peyton is one of those rare psychics you immediately connect with, allowing me to feel completely at ease. She spoke to me in girlfriend dialogue, candidly with laughter and warmth. I told her some of my concerns surrounding career, more specifically feeling like I’ve been pulled in many different directions with a much appreciated but suddenly overwhelming increase in business. I was struggling to balance it all: marriage, kids, career, caring for extended family members, volunteer positions, and the day-to-day rat race. Read the rest of this entry »

Speak Up: Create Lasting Change

Change Your Life and Brain With Meditation

Suzanne from Falkland, Canada Asks:

Carmen, I have a damaged brain due to trauma and past lifestyle issues. As diligent as I can be with trying new things to change “behavioral ruts,” I only get so far before I stop. I know change is slow at times and the universe is on my side. Do you have any suggestions on how to feel “whole,” after trauma that has been a part of my life for forty years? Many thanks for considering my query.

Dear Suzanne,

I firmly believe that we can overcome past trauma and that past “wrong” choices can be corrected. So let me share what I actually know and what has been scientifically proven.

When neuroscientists studied the brains of Franciscan nuns and Tibetan monks, they found that the part of the brain that controls our time, space and depth perception, usually the most active part of our brain, would go completely blue and green for those in a very deep meditative state. In other words, these people really do become part of the universe. Furthermore, they also found that consistent meditative practice not only actively changes the brain’s chemistry and rewires the neurological pathways, but meditation—get ready for this one—changes your genes! The studies I have read and followed for a few years now, are so compelling and conclusive that I have decided to get on boat and start regular meditation again. Meditation gets rid of anxiety, stress and depression and actively creates peace. Monks are living a more peaceful life, because their brains are actually truly more peaceful! Are There Egyptian Pyramids in the Grand Canyon?

A New Mystery Unveiled?

Is it possible that there might, in fact, be Egyptian pyramids in the Grand Canyon — and what would that mean about our civilization?

Well, at least that’s what one 1909 news report suggested. Didn’t turn out to be true, but it’s fun to think about…

io9 Reports:

Did Egyptians cross the Pacific Ocean and wander the American Southwest thousands of years ago? In the early 20th century, claims of such a discovery were made by two Smithsonian-funded archaeologists, who spoke of a thriving civilization tucked within a series of caverns carved into the side of a remote portion of the Grand Canyon. What did the archaeologists find? What evidence did they bring back? Hell, did these men even exist? Read the rest of this entry »

Letting Go of the Angel and the Devil

December 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm
By Krishna Bill

Taking Charge of Yourself

We all know the image: the person with the angel on one shoulder, and the devil on the other, telling them what to do. The angel represents their higher conscience and personal restraint; the devil represents their need for instant gratification regardless of the “rules.”

Most of us spend our lives being pushed around by these two impulses, struggling to figure out which one to listen to. And sometimes, the more we listen to one, it seems the louder the other one gets.

Is there a third option? Read the rest of this entry »

Shroud of Turin Proved Authentic?

December 22, 2011 at 1:00 pm
By Krishna Bill

Is the Shroud of Turin Actually a Holy Relic?

The Shroud of Turin—the cloth allegedly containing an imprint of the face of Jesus that was laid over him at the crucifixion, and which came to prominence after it was brought back to Western Europe during the Crusades—has recently been subjected to scientific analysis; the Italian team that did the work decided there was no rational explanation for its existence.

ABC News reports:

A new study by Italian scientists may not be definitive on its origins, but it does refute the popular notion that it was faked during the Middle Ages.

Experts at Italy’s National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Development have concluded in a report that the famed purported burial cloth of Jesus Christ could not have been faked. Read the rest of this entry »

Where’s My Power?

December 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm
By Krishna Bill

Take Back What You’ve Given Away

Power is an important thing.

The power to make decisions for yourself, the power to stand on your own two feet, the power to maintain boundaries with those who would take that power. So often in this world we’re encouraged to maintain the social contract and keep the peace by giving our power away to others; yet the truth is, I suspect, that that’s the source of 99% of our woes.

The train to nowheresville chugs along each time we give our power away to something outside ourselves — whether that’s a relationship, a religion, a guru, an ideology, some media figure or entertainer, etc. Read the rest of this entry »

Party it Up… Ancient Egyptian Style!

December 20, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Christmas, New Year’s and the 5 Days of the Gods and Goddesses in Ancient Egypt

Want even more celebrations for December? A calendar the Egyptians created around 2800 BCE reflects our holidays at the end of the year. It offers five days’ celebration and an agreement between solar and lunar calendars!

Over the millennia, when we have wanted to create a business calendar representing the return of the sun to a particular place in the sky, it has become a dilemma trying to integrate it with the monthly lunar cycles of the old calendars. This lack of integration is alive today. The Western Gregorian/solar calendar of 365 days, plus a day every four years differs from the Hebrew calendar and Muslim lunar calendar. For you, personally, this tends to separate our business cycles and emotional cycles tied to the Moon. Celebrating our holidays in a big way like the ancient Egyptians offers a solution!
