Meditation Workout

By Psychic Marin ext. 5113

Learning how to “still” your mind is a skill that is becoming less apparent in our hectic world. Not only can you gain access to inner peace, but with increased practice, meditation will allow you to access your intuition, the place where you can find answers to your problems.

Atmosphere
You will need a location of interrupted stillness and quiet. It is possible to work in absolute silence, but usually your ears will pick up soft background noise such as the clicking of the air conditioner or hum of the refrigerator. In busy cities or neighborhoods, you can drown out the sound by using soft, relaxing music to enhance your surroundings. Obviously, you will want to avoid using music with lyrics, as you don’t want to inadvertently pull yourself out of a deep mediation by singing along with a familiar song.

Wardrobe
Although this may seem trivial, comfortable clothing, as what is worn in yoga, is important for successful sittings. You do not want tight athletic tops restricting your breathing, or uncomfortable waistlines cutting into your stomach while you are stationary. I also suggest removing your shoes for maximum comfort.

Protection
As you slip into meditation, your basic protection senses can often drift. This is why a simple protection visualization will keep you energetically safe throughout your meditation, allowing your mind to wander as far off as necessary. To successfully establish a protective boundary prior to your meditation exercise, imagine a circle of white light, often described as an “egg,” and allow this white light to extend three inches deep from your body. Imagine that it acts as an energetic barrier, similar to an electric fence, that zaps any negativity from entering your personal space.

Posture
Find a comfortable position and relax. This traditionally means sitting in a crossed-legged or, if you’re limber enough, a “lotus” position. You may prefer to sit against a wall for lower back support. Although lying down may feel comfortable, quite often you can slip into sleep in this position, and that it why it is typically not a suggested position for meditation. Meditation in an upright, seated position promotes good posture as it gently works your muscles keeping you upright and statuesque.

Breathing
In most forms of breath work, you will hear the common phrase, “Breathe in with your nose, out through your mouth.” This method establishes a pattern and rhythm for your mind to follow and be taken away into a dream state.

Meditation Workout
1. Begin breathing in to the count of five through your nose, and out through your mouth for the count of five. Identify your diaphragm, located in the lower portion of your lungs in the center of your chest. Try to generate your breath from this location.

2. As you begin breathing out, allow your body to become increasingly more relaxed.

3. Breathe in relaxation, and breathe out the tension and anxieties of your day.

4. Beginning with your feet, allow your senses to identify and feel the muscles and any tension within the feet, and then allow them to completely relax.

5. Moving upward in the body, next allow the legs to become completely relaxed.

6. Continue moving upward through your entire body until you reach the top of your head, achieving complete relaxation.

7. See yourself as an unrestricted silhouette of light, engulfed in your protective energetic egg.

8. Now focus on your inner mind by imagining a small ball of light at the center of your forehead. At this point, you may welcome any divine messages of guidance as you briefly allow your intuition to exercise.

9. When you are fulfilled and wish to return to your previous mental state, work backwards, beginning with your head, allowing it to become alive again. Next wake up your neck and shoulders, all the way down to your feet. Wiggle your toes, and allow the vitality and energy to surge through your body, similar to the feeling of waking up from a deep sleep.

10. Open your eyes, and reacquaint yourself with your surroundings.

Thank your divine higher power for protecting you and aiding you in your meditation. Take immediate note of insights, messages, and images you may have gained during this exercise while the information is still fresh enough for you to capture.

Meditation is best experienced within a routine. Practicing for at least 15 minutes daily will allow you to gain the endurance and focus necessary to bring your mind to an entirely new level of awareness.

Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance.

Faithfully,
Marin

Dwarf Planet Ceres By Sign

July 28, 2010 at 5:00 pm
By Debbie Keil-Leavitt

New planet discoveries normally indicate a “sea change” for humanity. For example, when Uranus was discovered, humanity discovered electricity and the rights of the individual. When Neptune was found, we made advances in treating infectious diseases and pain killers. When Pluto was discovered, we started using atomic physics, allowing us the life-and-death possibilities of saving or annihilating ourselves. Now we have a new set of planets with a very potent message of our times. These new planets are attuned to sustainability and personal creativity.

Our cycles of change are actually long, with swift turning points. So this “story of us” really started back in 1800 when Ceres was discovered and named, but was not given planet status. She moved us beyond women just being lovers or mothers (Venus and the Moon). Her newly assigned planet status ties to the new expanded roles of women and the urgent need to look at our Mother Planet and our dependency upon Her.

Ceres/Demeter (the Latin Ceres) had equal status in the Greek pantheon with brothers Zeus/Jupiter, Poseidon/Neptune, and Hades/Pluto, sisters Hera/Juno and Hestia/Vesta, and with Pallas Athena, daughter of Zeus/Jupiter. Ceres’ receiving equal status to Pluto as a (dwarf) planet is a reflection of the true mythology and of women’s expanded opportunities.

True to planetary mythology, this balancing of status came about when new dwarf planet Eris was discovered to actually be larger than Pluto. Eris is the daughter of Jupiter and sister of Mars/Ares who shakes up the status quo and corrects the errors of humanity.

Now that Ceres/Demeter has been brought back to appropriate status in the Greek pantheon, her message is becoming more visible, as she is joined by the other new planets.

The most prominent story of motherhood and food for mankind is associated with Ceres/Demeter. Her daughter Persephone was picking flowers in the Elysian Fields in her youthful innocence when Hades/Pluto arose from beneath the earth to steal her away to his Underworld realm and make her his Queen.

Ceres/Demeter was so distraught over the loss of her daughter that she wandered the planet searching for her, consuming only barley water and leaving a trail of tears that didn’t allow crops to grow and be harvested. Brother Zeus/Jupiter denied knowledge of Persephone’s whereabouts until humanity complained that they would starve. An agreement was then brokered with Hades/Pluto that Persephone would be returned to Ceres for part of the year. Myths vary on the length of time, but one reflects the heliacal rising and setting cycle of Venus each year (see related Heliacal Rising articles here on California Psychics).

So, in your chart, in a personal sense, Ceres/Demeter represents issues of your diet, and if difficult, can indicate eating disorders that can be healed when we learn how to integrate Ceres. She could also describe you as a truly devoted mother and a great cook/nourisher. If difficult, child custody issues could arise, with a sense of loss, but the child would likely be returned to you, or stay with you.

Ceres can also have to do with not only the loss and return of a child, but of another loved one. An example would be Paul McCartney. Ceres is very prominent in the relationship point in his chart. He lost his mother at a young age, then found his beloved Linda.

Linda and Paul had a very successful relationship and parenthood and discovered animal rights causes associated with their vegetarianism. Sadly, the loss of the prominent female in his life repeated itself with Linda’s dying young. His new love Nancy Shevell’s Ceres is harmonious with Paul’s, which should help break this recurring theme in his life, showing he has integrated Ceres successfully.

In the future, we will more deeply discuss the stories related to Ceres/Demeter in her sign Virgo and Persephone in her sign Scorpio. Watch for future articles with the poignant and powerful stories of the other new “eco-friendly” planets: Sedna, the Inuit sea-goddess, Haumea, the Mother Goddess of Hawai’i and Makemake, the “Birdman god” of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) along with Eris. You will be amazed at how literally they express their myths in your life.

Until then, put Ceres to work in your chart to balance your diet, your love of your children with their need for independence, and using your tenderness/nurturing to include yourself. Ceres is the nourishing presence there to comfort you amidst your love of family.

Survive Your Midlife Crisis

July 28, 2010 at 5:00 pm
By Alina Mikos

The common definition of midlife crisis is a period of emotional turmoil in characterized by a strong desire for change. It occurs in both men and women and is manifested in many different ways. Men, predominantly motivated to prove themselves visibly, are inclined to buy flashy cars, hit on younger women, and spend excessive amounts of time at the gym. Issues that fuel a woman’s midlife crisis are often a bit more complicated and introspective.

Women tend to enter this stage of life through new insights spurred by self-reflection, religion, or counseling. In this phase, women often question every aspect of their lives, make extremely impulsive decisions such as quitting their jobs, undergoing radical cosmetic surgery, going on excessive shopping sprees, and, in some cases, divorcing their partner.

The Instigators
When children grow up and become independent, women often experience the “empty nest syndrome” in which the children leave home and the parent experiences deep loneliness. If a woman has spent most of her time and therefore based much of her identity on raising her children, their departure from the home can easily diminish her sense of worth and bring on depression.

Another factor frequently affecting the female midlife crisis is menopause. Between fluctuating hormones and the mental and spiritual grappling over what it means for a woman to become “infertile,” a sense of uneasiness and unhappiness can set in.

Often the husband’s own midlife crisis coincides with his wife’s, adding his negative emotions to their relationship. His actions can either push his wife away through his need to prove his vitality and attractiveness, or they can surface as a neediness and an overdependence on her, which can make the woman feel trapped in her life and in a potentially degrading relationship.

A fourth factor involved with female menopause is the loss of beauty and vitality as a woman ages. The fearful feeling that she will never be as desirable as she once was and that her most adventurous and formidable years are behind her, can easily send her into a downward spiral of depression, triggering the need to change something in her life to alleviate her unhappiness.

Then there’s the mortality factor. Midlife tends to be a time when health starts to become an issue. Problems such as arthritis, diabetes, and obesity can introduce new fears, along with a sense of helplessness.

These factors tend to have a cumulative effect on a woman, which culminate in feelings of despair, fear, boredom, and disappointment that lead to aggressive, risky choices associated with a midlife crisis.

The Counterattack
There are distinctly effective techniques to minimize the severity of a midlife crisis. It helps greatly if the woman feels that she has made good choices in her life and that she has followed her passions and interests. When midlife hits for these women, they don’t feel the same type of overwhelming panic of “I never did what I wanted and I’m almost out of time” that seems to afflict many middle-agers.

Maintaining a good relationship with children and friends can go a long way towards peaceful aging. Starting hobbies, joining clubs, and picking up new activities is an excellent way of expressing potentially suppressed creativity and a way to bring a fresh breath into daily life. Taking the time to plan trips and to travel is another way to counteract boredom and the fear of having lost the best years of one’s life. Eating right and exercising regularly are great ways to deal with midlife issues, as physical activity makes us feel more balanced and releases endorphins that put us in a positive mindset.

An important aspect of this life stage is to keep in mind that while it is possible that we haven’t been living our lives to the fullest so far, we have the power to make many or all of the changes that we once avoided. The most self-destructive thing we can do at this time of our lives is to engage in further delay. If we have learned nothing else, we should have learned that time is fleeting and excuses are costly. Costly in lost opportunities to finally live fully and comfortably within our own skins.

Leo Bad Boys

July 27, 2010 at 5:01 pm
By Cortney Litwin

Whether they are naughty in real life or portray a villain onscreen, Leo bad boys are hard to resist. As a Fire sign ruled by the Sun, they light up a room with their charisma and entice us with their passion. But when a lion turns temperamental, demanding or willful, they can be just as fascinating. Let’s take a look at the charts of singer Mick Jagger and actor/directors Robert De Niro and Sean Penn to discover the secrets of Leo bad boys.

Mick Jagger
The term “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll” was made for this legendary Rolling Stone. Born on July 26, 1943, he’s a force of nature. He’s got Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, and Pluto conjunct in Leo, the sign of creativity, performance, and willpower. This intense focus assures that Jagger possesses both the positive and negative traits of his sign.

On the plus side, he’s manifested his creativity on a massive scale. He formed The Rolling Stones while in his late teens and he’s still going strong at 67. And since Leo is the sign of leadership, he’s the perfect front man for the group.

On the downside, Leo can be the quintessential playboy who never grows up. Jagger has seven children by four women. His first wife, Bianca Jagger, filed for divorce on the grounds of adultery. Later, he sired a child with Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez while he was involved with Jerry Hall, with whom he has four children. It’s a good thing for Jagger that Leos are usually loving and supportive parents. Still, a rebellious streak from Uranus conjunct the ascendant in Gemini — where he gets his manic energy onstage — assures that this rock star will never lead an ordinary life.

Robert De Niro
The memorable tough-guy line, “You talkin’ to me?” from Taxi Driver is a taste of De Niro’s genius for portraying thugs. Born just three weeks after Jagger, on August 17, 1943, De Niro shares some of the same astrological influences, such as Sun, Jupiter and Pluto in Leo (De Niro doesn’t have Jagger’s Sun-Pluto conjunction, though, which decreases the willfulness).

One of De Niro’s best alpha male performances is as boxer Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. De Niro undoubtedly accessed his dark side to portray a character consumed by rage and jealousy. Other tough-guy roles include the young Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II, a thug in Mean Streets, a Vietnam veteran in The Deer Hunter and a mobster in Goodfellas.

Still, De Niro also has Leo’s playful side, which is evident in his comedic performance in Meet the Parents. And he combined his bad-boyishness with humor in Analyze This, where he plays a Mafioso in therapy.

In contrast with his villainous characters, De Niro’s real life seems relatively normal. He’s on his second marriage as of 1997. An Earth emphasis that includes Venus and Mercury in Virgo and Mars in Taurus indicates he needs stability in his personal life. More importantly, Moon in Pisces reveals he’s actually a softie at heart.

Sean Penn
Born on August 17 1960, Penn has Sun conjunct Uranus in Leo, which makes him unusually willful, even for a Leo. He rebels against constraints of any kind. He also has an explosive temper, which the paparazzi can attest to. In 1987, during his marriage to pop star Madonna, he served 33 days in jail for assaulting a photographer.

Still, having a strong Uranus heightens Penn’s inventiveness as an actor and director. What’s more, because it’s such an unconventional influence, it helped him win an Academy Award for Best Actor in Milk, as gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk. It was the perfect role for Penn, who relates to the outcasts, rebels and downtrodden of society. This Uranian energy is also responsible for his dedication as an activist.

In romance, Venus conjunct Pluto in Virgo indicates a love life filled with the highest highs and the lowest lows. After his marriage to the material girl ended in 1989, Penn became involved with actress Robin Wright, whom he married in 1996. After several separations over the years, the marriage ended last year.

Leos, whether they’re naughty or nice, captivate our hearts with their passion, creativity and courage.

Dreams About Deceased Lovers

July 26, 2010 at 5:00 pm
By Cortney Litwin

Pam from Hammond, Indiana writes:

When I learned of my brother’s illness two years ago, I began dreaming about and having visits from a man I dated back when I was 18, who passed away. In the dreams he comforted me, and we were both so happy again. I knew in the back of my mind that I was 50 years old now, but in the dream, he was still 19. The dreams/visits are always happy. I am very sensitive psychically, and I have seen this man in my home, can smell his shampoo and cologne, and can feel him literally holding me while I sleep. When my brother passed, the dreams and visits continued. Am I losing my mind?

Hello Pam,

I’m very sorry you lost your brother. And you’re certainly not losing your mind by thinking you’re being comforted by your deceased friend. Actually, it sounds like you have a friend in the afterlife who remembers your time together and loves you still. Although the dreams might be just wishful thinking for someone to comfort you, I believe the visitations are real and that you sense his presence. Sometimes when we’re distressed, especially if a death is involved, a loved one from the other side will appear to us, usually through a dream, to let us know we’re not alone and that death does not sever the ties of love.

One thing to consider, though. You indicated you’re a Cancer, a sign known to be strongly connected to the past. It’s important that you stay involved with life through your activities, goals and the people you care about. As you heal from the loss of your brother, the visits from your friend may cease, but know that he’s still connected to you, and that you’ll meet up again someday.

Sweet dreams,
Cortney

How Your Beliefs Create Reality

July 20, 2010 at 5:00 pm
By Staff

There are all kinds of nifty, New Agey catch phrases floating around relating to the Law of Attraction and how your beliefs create your reality: “energy flows where attention goes,” “put white light around it,” and “perception is reality,” to name a few.

The problem with all of them is that unless you have a real understanding of how this reality-creating stuff actually works, those phrases are at best confusing and at worst downright offensive to “regular” people, who understandably interpret them to mean either that whatever’s happening is all their fault, or that they should just ignore the terrible things that are happening, do nothing, and pretend everything is okay when it clearly isn’t.

What those phrases, and the fundamental workings of the Law of Attraction, actually mean is most clearly explained by neuroscience and quantum physics.

For example, your eyes and the rest of your senses are being bombarded with gazillions of bits of information every second, and yet your brain is able to sort through them all and, second by second, present you with your normal, apparently orderly and predictable day-to-day world.

How? Since you were born, your brain has been receiving instructions about how to sort these inputs, how to create society’s version of what is normal, everyday “reality” to you as you move through your day. Parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, enemies, books, TV, religious teachings, and your own experiences have all contributed to build a sorting and decision-making process that rests on your beliefs about what is reality … and what isn’t.

What does this mean? It means that your beliefs create your expectations, and your expectations not only affect how you interpret what you see, they affect what you are actually able to see. In other words, if incoming data doesn’t fit into your beliefs, the “reality” you’ve structured throughout your life, there’s an excellent chance that the new concept or reality won’t even get close enough for you to recognize and scoff at. If it’s too radical, it likely won’t even show up on your radar, having already been sorted into a kind of mental incinerator.

It also means that what does finally reach you has already been colored and interpreted by your more personal, individual reality grid. For example, suppose you have a family history of relationship problems, and you’ve personally experienced more than one cheating lover. For you, reality is that lovers are likely to cheat. And everything you see, everything that your lover does that registers with you is tainted by your expectation that they will probably cheat. You could even be subconsciously attracted to people who are more likely to cheat because your brain has been programmed to believe that your “reality” must include that element and sorts your choices accordingly.

This is why many positive thinking programs don’t seem to work, or if they do, they seem to wear off quickly. Unless your new reality, your more positive thinking, is built from your innermost being, your bedrock beliefs and expectations, and out into your daily life, new thoughts are only a thin layer over your fundamental structures, and therefore not very effective or long-lasting.

Albert Einstein said that “The single most important decision any of us will ever make is whether or not to believe the Universe is friendly.” This is the key!

Let’s apply this idea to the Gulf oil gusher. If you believe the Universe is not friendly, and that multinational corporations are exempt from intervention by miracles, then it’s all too easy to imagine unstoppable mass species extinction, waters irretrievably polluted globally, increased seismic activity, and annihilation of what’s left of the ocean’s abundance.

But if the Universe is friendly, what might happen?

This is where it gets tricky. Because when we humans put our minds to work on “how” something might happen, we immediately limit the possibilities. Higher Powers don’t have to operate within human reality constructs. Miracles are events that create solutions in ways that we couldn’t possibly imagine.

So our task, while we send money, make phone calls, write letters, stay abreast of what’s unfolding and even go to the Gulf area to lend a hand, is to cherish the belief, not only for the good of the Gulf oil situation, but in our own lives, that the miraculous can and does happen, that even a disaster of this magnitude can open the gateway to real change and boot us through that gate and into a better future.

Science and Your Third Eye

July 19, 2010 at 5:00 pm
By Staff

More and more, scientists seem to be making discoveries that validate beliefs held by spiritual traditions since ancient times, as with quantum physics and the nature of perception and reality. Recent research has made intriguing connections between the pineal gland and the Third Eye’s function as the gateway for psychic vision and insight.

Only since the early 1900s has the Third Eye chakra become known as the seat or center of psychic vision. For more than 2,000 years, the Third Eye has been known as “Ajna” or the “Guru” chakra by Hindu practitioners of yoga and tantra, the site where a guru could introduce spiritual guidance. Located between the eyebrows, it’s directly behind the root of the nose, and usually symbolized by a circle with a petal on either side and the symbol for Om, which looks like a fancy numeral 3, in the center.

Modern practitioners associate chakras with the endocrine system of glands that secrete hormones to regulate the body’s functions, including mood, growth and development, tissue function, and metabolism. Until very recently, science has considered the gland associated with the Third Eye, the pea-sized pineal gland, to be pretty useless, a kind of evolutionary leftover like the appendix.

Measuring Time and Creating Dreams
The pineal gland’s primary job is to secrete melatonin, which regulates our sleep cycle, retards aging, regulates growth, and maintains mental stability. Because the pineal is light-sensitive, scientists have assumed that the signals that trigger melatonin production are solely received through the eyes.

Serena Roney-Dougal, one of the few people in Britain to have earned a Ph.D. for a parapsychological thesis (parapsychology is the scientific study of psychic ability or “psi” ability), recently revealed research strongly implying that the Earth’s electromagnetic field (EMF) may actually be the pineal gland’s trigger, particularly of its ability to open psychic doorways.

Visionary Gland
In addition to melatonin, the pineal gland also produces chemicals that affect the brain, and whose functions are similar to drugs like Prozac, which affects serotonin levels. Evidence also suggests that the pineal can manufacture its own hallucinogenic substance, known as pinoline, from melatonin, and enzymes that can cause serotonin itself to produce a “variety of possible hallucinogens,” according to Roney-Dougal.

The production of those enzymes in animals and humans seems to be strongly affected by the Earth’s electromagnetic and geomagnetic fields. Could this be why profound spiritual experiences and psychic insights seem to occur so much more easily at sacred sites, which are known to have powerful geomagnetic and electromagnetic fields? Roney-Dougal says that it “suggests that the old idea of a ‘sixth sense’ may be just that, a sensitivity to the EMF.”

Psychedelic Effects
When the pineal gland is stimulated geomagnetically, it produces chemicals similar to consciousness-altering plant hallucinogens. One is a plant-based ceremonial drink made by some Amazon tribes to produce psychic effects for healing, clairvoyance, and precognition that is chemically nearly identical to the pineal’s hallucinogen, pinoline.

Other studies show that consciousness-altering drugs alter levels of melatonin and serotonin. If this is the case, says Roney-Dougal, any strong change in the earth’s ambient magnetic field would produce a rush of natural hallucinogens in our bodies, enabling us to be more psychically receptive.

EMF and Psychic Activity
Renowned parapsychologist Stanley Krippner conducted studies that showed a connection between EMF and geomagnetic activity and an increase in dreams or psychic activity. He set up a dream laboratory where some participants slept in one room while others attempted to “send” them certain images to determine whether those images would creep into the sleepers’ dreams. One part of the study revealed that on nights with less geomagnetic activity, the dreamer was much more accurate in picking up the sender’s images.

The complete article explaining Roney-Dougal’s research, as well as her studies of such things as the links between psychic ability, shamanism, and psychedelics, the psychophysiology of the chakra system, and yoga and parapsychology, are available online and make fascinating reading.

Science, Psychics, and Spirituality
There is a vast realm of scientific information available that, if you’re interested, can add immeasurably to your spiritual growth and psychic abilities. Try watching the “introductory” movie What the Bleep Do We Know, and browsing books like The Tao of Physics, Dancing Wu Li Masters, and Fred Wolf’s Taking the Quantum Leap: the New Physics for Nonscientists. They’re clear, concise, and absolutely mind-boggling!
